Adults with chronic kidney disease or high-risk kidney phenotypes
DESIGN TARGETAdvancing clinical research and health outcomes
Research built where it matters.
Nexus Health Research Alliance builds African-led, globally connected research platforms that turn representative data into better clinical decisions, stronger health systems and more equitable discovery.
Representative participants and longitudinal outcomes anchor every discovery.
Built around local populations, priorities and care pathways.
Connecting clinical, biological, environmental and digital evidence.
Moving knowledge towards practice, policy and future trials.
FLAGSHIP STUDY
Understanding why kidney disease progresses differently.
NexusGen CKD Ghana is a planned longitudinal platform for adults with chronic kidney disease or high-risk kidney phenotypes. It brings together clinical phenotyping, biospecimens, biomarkers, imaging, genomics, environmental exposures and digital measures to identify drivers of progression and cardio-renal risk.
Participants with richer biological, imaging and mechanistic assessment
NESTED COHORTKidney, cardiovascular and mortality outcomes over time
LONGITUDINAL DESIGNBetter prediction and a future trial-ready research resource
TRANSLATIONAL GOALRESEARCH IN CONTEXT
Science shaped around real clinical questions.
Nexus connects clinical care, laboratory science, data and technology so that discovery begins with the health priorities it is intended to serve.
Evidence should represent the people it is meant to serve.
Major gaps in clinical data, genomics and longitudinal research continue to limit how well health evidence reflects diverse populations.
Nexus brings together clinicians, scientists, institutions and technology partners to create durable research platforms with local leadership and global relevance.
How we work02 · THE NEXUS MODEL
From local questions to globally useful evidence.
We build the scientific, operational and partnership architecture required for discovery that lasts beyond a single study.
What is happening, and to whom?
A trusted picture of disease burden, variation and unmet need.
03 · RESEARCH PROGRAMMES
Platforms for consequential health questions.
Our programmes combine disease-specific scientific depth with shared infrastructure for data, biospecimens, governance and collaboration.
NexusGen CKD Ghana
A longitudinal platform integrating clinical phenotyping, genomics, biomarkers, vascular and retinal imaging, environmental exposures and AI-enabled modelling.
Diabetes and cardiovascular outcomes
Clinical and population research examining the mechanisms and outcomes connecting metabolic disease with cardiovascular risk.
Valvular disease and arrhythmia
Collaborative research designed to improve understanding of structural heart disease and rhythm disorders across diverse care settings.
Flagship platform
NexusGen CKD Ghana
A Ghana-led longitudinal discovery platform created to explain why chronic kidney disease progresses differently from one person to another, and to translate those insights into better risk prediction and future intervention research.
